Expanded Learning Programs (BLAST & ASES)
2019-2020 BLAST/ASES Registration
Welcome to Expanded Learning
Welcome to the Claremont Unified School District Child Development Expanded Learning Program! It is our pleasure and privilege to share in the continuous growth and development of your school age child.
The CUSD Expanded Learning Programs, better known as BLAST and ASES provides before and after school care to children in grades TK - 6th at each of the seven elementary school sites within the district.
The Best Learning After School Time (BLAST) program is a self-supported tuition based program. Parents pay tuition fees to cover all the costs incurred for this program. Fees range from an amount to cover before school care only to an amount to cover before and after school care. The program provides care Monday-Friday on all regular school days from 7:00 a.m. until school begins and again after school until 6:00 p.m. A daily healthy snack is provided during the after school BLAST program in alignment with the National School Lunch Program.
A full day BLAST program is offered at selected school sites from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. during spring break, and summer vacation. Seasonal programs are contingent upon enrollment and are not a guaranteed offering.
The After School Community Education and Safety (ASES) Program is a state-subsidized program that is available only to students attending Vista del Valle Elementary School. Families attending the ASES program at Vista pay a flat monthly family fee and are required to attend the program Monday-Friday from the end of school until 6:00 p.m.
Purpose
The purpose of the BLAST/ASES program is to provide a safe, supportive and active learning environment for elementary school age children before and/or after the regular school day hours. The program environment is structured to reflect the needs, interests and capabilities of children five to twelve years of age. All locations are well equipped and arranged to accommodate children individually, as well as small and large groups. Children have the opportunity to choose from a wide variety of developmentally appropriate enrichment activities which include recreation and games, arts and crafts, tennis instruction and a variety of academically related activities in the areas of language/literacy, science, math, history, technology and music. The program also offers homework time and free time for children to pursue their own interests in a safe and positive environment.
